The United States presidential election of 2052 was the 67th quadrennial American presidential election, held on Saturday, November 2, 2052. Independent candidates political activist Alessandra Mandrini from New Jersey and political activist Farouk D'Aubelijin from Mississippi defeated Democratic Party nominees U.S. Senator Emily Matthews from Illinois and U.S. Representative Madison Dusenelli from New York, Republican Party nominees U.S. Senator Rena Haley from South Carolina and U.S. Senator Anthony Schmidt from Wisconsin, Socialist Party nominees political activist Timothy Delato from California and Town Councillor Colin Thorne from Massachusetts, and Green Party nominees City Councillor Baboo Patel from North Carolina and political activist Xi Kim from Oregon. Alessandra Mandrini became the first independent to be elected president since George Washington, and Farouk D'Aubelijin became the first independent to ever be elected vice president. This marked the first time in American history that all major parties had at least one woman on their ticket.
The incumbent president, Jacob Edwards, of the Democratic Party, was ineligible to be elected to a third term due to term limits in the Twenty-second Amendment to the United States Constitution. In the Democratic field, there were many candidates, with U.S. Senator Andrew Cartier from Louisiana eventually becoming the frontrunner and capturing the nomination. In the Republican field, there were also several candidates, with U.S. Senator Rena Haley from South Carolina securing the nomination by March 2052. There were only a handful of candidates in the Socialist field, with political activist Timothy Delato capturing the nomination with relative ease. In the Green field, there were also not many candidates, with City Councillor Baboo Patel securing the nomination by January 2052. The campaigns focused largely on foreign policy issues, such as the outbreak of the Third World War, an ongoing humanitarian crisis in Mexico following the rise of a dictator, building tensions in the Balkans, and multiple nations researching antimatter weapons. Domestic issues were also discussed, such as a refugee crisis in the Southwestern United States, an ongoing economic recession, a bill for tuition-free college going through Congress, and a nationwide movement to legalize some illegal drugs.
Mandrini won the election in one of the biggest upsets in American history, managing to gain the support of many unlikely voters with her "World of Change" campaign. With 58.72% of the popular vote, she won the popular vote by the largest margin since Ronald Reagan won 58.8% of the popular vote in the 1984 presidential election. Mandrini became the first independent to be elected president since George Washington, and Farouk D'Aubelijin became the first independent to ever be elected vice president.
